Success Story Details

Name: Alam Gul

Father Name: Gulam Jan

Profession: Saydabad district Shura director

My name is Alam Gul s/of: Gulam Jan. I am from Pathan Khel village and director of Saydabad district local Shura in Maydan Wardak province. I was informed through an official letter by AABRAR team in Saydabad district for this workshops/training.
They told me that, AABRAR will conducted five days civic education training/workshops with the financial support of DDT for the 18 Shura members of Saydabad district and will train them in below mentioned topics; (I) National assembly (Parliament), (II) Judiciary system, (III) Election, (IV) Youth role in a society (V) Shura member responsibility to communicate to communities.
When I lesson that, AABRAR conducting civic education training for us, so I was very happy in that time. However, they request from us to prepare 18 district Shura members list, until to provide them civic education training.
Furthermore, I discussed this project with other members of local Shura; they were also interested with this program in Maydan Wardak. Hence, with
the cooperation of other members of local Shura we made a participant list of 18 Shura members and submitted to AABRAR office.
Moreover, AABRAR trainers had started actual civic education training/workshop on 4th March 2012.
I was participated in some of the similar trainings before and had idea regarding some of civic education topics so I wasn’t new with this program, but some of our friends were quite new with this program and they asked me many question and was in trouble that, what will be in these trainings.
However, when we went for the training of 4th March 2012, at the start of the training session, the trainers were have a test from the trainees in order to assess our knowledge of understanding about the topics, and I found it very hard to answer to most of the test questions and also my other colleagues of the training were not able to answer them. Hence, the trainers told us that this is only an assessment to find out your knowledge and you people should not be ashamed that you didn’t answer the questions.
However, the training started slowly and things were becoming clear as the topics were delivered and group works were done. In fact, it was a nice experience for me to get this training, the method of the trainers was very fantastic, and they trained us gradually about the mentioned topics. Slowly and steadily we went through the course and during the training, different types of course materials, like agenda of the workshop/training, presentation documents, notes, notebooks, pens, civic education books, and flipcharts were distributed among the participants in order to take benefit from it. These materials were very beneficial for us.
Furthermore, now the training is finished, I can say that, the trainers have performed their duty in a very efficient way and informed us about all the topics mentioned in the program and we were fully aware of the topics.
Indeed, previously we had no idea about the role of youth in a society, elections, local Shura’s role, and responsibility and especially about the judiciary system of country. But now we know how to cast our vote for the right person, who should be contacted in case of our problems, and what are our rights on the government and what are our responsibilities towards the government and society and as well as now we know that, what are the role of youth in society.
So, I would like to suggest that, AABRAR should continue providing such workshop/training to the other people of this vicinity as a large number of people are still unaware of such important issues and besides this I as a director of Saydabad local Shura I request that, donor agencies must conduct the same Civic Education training, what I have taught before starting of this training was thinking that I know everything because I received some civic education training , but slowly I understood that these topics are very unique and very important , the civic education books provided by master trainer were very important where we found a lot of necessary information written there, which is indeed important not only for us but the teachers of the school should also be benefited from these important training materials.
Finally by providing of such training a relations will be made and stability will come to our district by implementing of such projects in the district of Sayed Abad.
